SPLOST, or the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, is a one-cent tax that is currently assessed in Cobb County. The ongoing tax is set to expire in 2021, and the Cobb government is looking to renew it when citizens vote in the November elections.

What exactly does this penny tax go towards? Many things, but a good portion of the list for 2021 is dedicated to street improvements in the County. Improvements include sidewalks, paving, signal repair, along with others. The Department of Transportation is receiving a large amount of over $329 million to handle these projects. Other improvements sponsored by SPLOST include Cobb County parks, public safety, support services, public safety, municipality, and community impact projects. A full list of items updated on May 22, 2020, can be found here.
