Writers block. Everyone gets it from time to time, especially when trying to describe a home you are selling in just a few hundred words. An article written this week by Michael Kolomatsky in the NY Times goes in depth with findings on the most attractive words and phrases in property descriptions. The research was done by a real estate listing website for mid-2019 listings, covering 1.2 million listings.
The Research
The research categorizes the listings by asking price in $250,000 increments. Overwhelmingly, “hardwood floors” and “granite countertops” were favorite phrases in all listings up to 5 million dollars. Beyond the 5 million dollar mark, different phrases such as “pool and spa” and “chef kitchen” predominate. Nevertheless, the higher price point listings still found hardwood floors to be an attractive feature.
