A Family-Friendly Atlanta Outing
Looking for a place to take the children, or your significant other? A few minutes from Sellect Realty’s office, you can go to SunTrust Park. The park is home to the Atlanta Braves, who have been a part of the Georgia sports culture since 1966.
Atlanta Braves History
The first incarnation of the Braves was created in Boston, in the beginning of 1871. Over more than half a century, support for the team decreased, and the team was moved to Milwaukee in 1953. Again, support decreased, and the team was moved to Atlanta where it has stayed.
The Braves were a top-winning team in the 1990’s. They were successful in securing a National Championship in 1995, and went on to achieve various league wins for the team.
In 2017, the Atlanta Braves moved to a new stadium called SunTrust Park. Previously, they have been in a stadium that was used for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The old stadium was sold to Georgia State University. The new stadium is located on the northern boundary of Atlanta in Cobb County. It is near the intersection of I-285 and I-75 making it convenient to many of the team’s fan base.
Exhibits in SunTrust Park
The baseball park does not only have the option of watching baseball. Above, The Monument Garden is open to the public to learn about the great players the team has had over the years. Some names are familiar to people, while others are not. There is also a children’s area called “the Sandlot,” and 100 other things to do! You could spend an entire day at the park, and not exhaust the list of offerings.
One must-do item at a ballpark is to purchase concessions. The classic song, “Take me out to the Ballgame” mentions them specifically. The tasty smells waft towards you as you walk to find your assigned seat in the stadium, and it’s hard to ignore.
SunTrust Park is modern when it comes to ordering concessions. There are self-serve kiosks along the walls where patrons can go and place an order and pay for their items. The full menu is placed on the wall above them in large font. The process is fairly easy to do for today’s technologically savvy population.
Atlanta prides itself in having some of the best local businesses in the South. One such business is King of Pops, a fruit juice pop company. Let me tell you…. THEY ARE DELICIOUS. We have personally had chocolate sea salt and strawberry lemonade. With a modest price of $4, you can’t go wrong on a hot summer day in Atlanta with King of Pops.
Want to remember your time at the ballpark? Head over to one of the many stores in the stadium such as “Authentics From the Game” where you can buy actual merchandise that was used in the game you have attended. They also have items from previous important games for sale. Cost ranges from the very affordable to the not so affordable.
